Job Summary


The Proofreader ensures content, both educational and marketing, is accurate, clear, and ready for publication. This includes both grammar and punctuation as well as formatting and consistency. 

This is a part-time position – estimated at 30-40 hours per month.  Schedule is flexible, as aligned with organizational needs.

Essential Functions

­
  1. Confer with editors and authors on content, form and style. Recommend revisions to articles and illustrations. Proofread publications and content for distribution. Make stylistic, structural, factual and grammatical corrections as needed. 
  2. Perform layout activities for print and digital publications. Monitor copy through editing and production stages.
  3. For each issue of BetterInvesting Magazine, prepare certain routine features; SSG pages for stock to study and Repair Shop chart are two particular responsibilities with others as needed
  4. Proof and prep each article/page for final production quality, ultimately review/proof digimag each issue. Ensure all links are working correctly, send correct URL info when incorrect and interface with digi vendor to ensure all is properly set for activating for members’ use.
  5. Backup for BetterInvesting Weekly layout/distribution and other projects when absences of other staff members require.
  6. Proofread educational content such as BetterInvesting Weekly. Proofreading the complete issue of each magazine is essential.
  7. Proofread much of the material the organization uses for marketing and publishing.
  8. Primary editor of membership renewal forms.
  9. Part of the BINC program book team. Ensure all copy and other assets are received on time and ready for inclusion.
  10. Ensure content matches existing style guides
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop

Desirable (but not required) Experience: Five years of professional proofreading experience
