Coach, Is Offense or Defense More Important?

Welcome to today's exciting game where both offense and defense take center stage. 

Defense Coach Robin Ware will explore the Portfolio Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), demonstrating its defensive applications by identifying companies with declining fundamentals. She will evaluate whether these companies should be sold to safeguard our portfolio from potential losses. 

On the offensive side, Coach Mike Torbenson will leverage our insights from the SSG and use the PERT to show how we can enhance our portfolio's returns. He will also discuss which positions we might consider increasing for better performance. 

A team is a team, and by bringing it all together, John Blais will share some best practices for effectively utilizing the PERT within a club setting

Robin Ware volunteers with BetterInvesting and is the North Florida Board of Directors president. She founded an investment club and joined BetterInvesting in 1997, driven by her enthusiasm for imparting financial knowledge and guiding others in investing. Alongside Dan Harter, she instructs on BetterInvesting tools and techniques during the North Florida Chapter’s Tuesday Training Workshop. Additionally, she engages in First Cut Mentoring sessions and presents at various investment education fairs and events. Recently, she conducted sessions on Stock Selection Analysis Using SSGPlus™ and Portfolio Management on StockUp™.

Mike Torbenson was involved with BetterInvesting from 1987 until 2023, served on the Puget Sound Chapter from 2004 to 2023, and was part of the BI Volunteer Advisory Board. He took on the role of educational program manager for the BetterInvesting National Convention and is currently engaged with two investment clubs, earning several service awards along the way.

John Blais serves on the Board of Directors for the BetterInvesting Pittsburgh Chapter and is the president of the Pittsburgh Model Club East Computer Club. In this capacity, he leads educational sessions and offers resources focused on BetterInvesting strategies. A member since 2000, John has also facilitated chapter educational events and founded two investing clubs. 

John’s valuable "Cheat sheet" for the PERT will be included in the session handouts, making it an essential resource for attendees.
